Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism

The Al-Iraqia Medical College Journal (AIMC) has a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism. All submitted manuscripts are traced through iThenticate Turnitin. The author should provide a similarity review report for the submitted Manuscript or mention the percentage in the cover letter to avoid earlier rejection due to plagiarism. The policy of AIMC against plagiarism is as follows:

  1. 1) The percentage of plagiarism in the manuscript submitted for publication in the journal must be less than 20%.

    2) If the plagiarism is between 20-30%, the manuscript will be returned to the author for correction only once.

    3) A manuscript with a plagiarism rate of 31% or above will be rejected immediately and permanently. In such a case, the author has no right to resubmit this manuscript in any form.

    4) The acceptable percentage of use of artificial intelligence (AI) in a manuscript is according to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Instructions.

    5) If the percentage of AI used in the manuscript is above the instruction by 5-10%, the manuscript will be returned to the author for correction only once.

    6) If the percentage of AI used in the manuscript is more than instructions by 11% or above, it will be rejected immediately and permanently. In such a case, the author has no right to resubmit this manuscript in any form.

    7) The plagiarism from one single reference must be below 5%, and if it exceeds 10% the manuscript will be subject to immediate rejection.

Plagiarism Detection

The Al-Iraqia Medical College Journal (AIMCJ) screens all submitted manuscripts with the antiplagiarism software program Turnit In. If a significant commonality between a submitted manuscript and prior publications is identified on this initial software screening, the submission will be subject to a manual review for copyright breach. Whilst it is recognized that most submitted manuscripts will have similar phrases and wording in various sections, the extensive reproduction of previously published works (excluding quotations) will result in immediate rejection. Such unauthorized duplication of prior published work is regarded as a serious breach of copyright.
